Dear friends-
It has come to my attention that the PCUSA has made the news lately because of actions taken at the recent gathering of the General Assembly. Outside news sources do not always get accurate slants on their reports, so you might find the attachments helpful. They have been provided by our new moderator, vice-moderator, stated clerk, and executive director of the PCUSA and General Assembly Mission Council. They provide concise information about the five items that required the most conversation on the floor of the GA before being voted upon. (The commissioners took much more action than this!)
I am sending this to everyone by using this blog which includes many who are not members of our congregation and others who are not even Presbyterian. However, you may have heard the news on television or your neighbors might have seen something and we want you to be the bearers of direct and accurate information to address questions that may arise.
I attended this gathering with Erin Christiansen, a Young Adult Advisory Delegate from our church representing our presbytery. We will both be happy to address any questions that you may have about what we witnessed. The scripture from which the commissioners worked was this: Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). We believe that living water did indeed pour out from the hearts of all who worshipped, worked, and discerned their way through the 10 days in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the body of Christ.
