Outreach
There are many on-going and annual mission projects co-ordinated by our Mission and Outreach Committee. We also provide financial support for a number of off-site ministries.
Food Pantry contributions are collected at all times for members of our community.
Cherry Street Youth Center children are recipients of our regular collection of small gift items and toiletry items. During one month in the year, we provide milk and/or snacks for participants. Special requests are made at holiday times.
A Hat and Mitten Tree gathers gifts of love for cold heads and hands at Christmas time - scarves have been specifically requested.
Cans for Camp are collected in the educational wing. This recycling project provides scholarship money for children and youth to attend summer church camp.
The Ronald McDonald House is the recipient of our on-going collection of aluminum pull-tabs. This recycling project provides them with support funds. Additional gift drives also occur during the year.
Holiday gifts are sent to our military families and students at Christmas time. Local families in need are also adopted.
An Annual Mission Trip is sponsored for our youth and adults each summer.
Special Offerings provide financial support for denominationally sponsored mission work around the world.
Faith House, our local homeless shelter, receives our financial support, and is the focus of several special projects.
Just Another Tuesday is a meal ministry we offer in the community with other churches at Otterbein United Methodist.
Annual Ice Cream Social and Gospel Sing is held in September. All the neighbors (close and not-so-close) are invited to meet us in our church parking lot for ice cream, cakes and cookies, toe-tapping music, and an all-around good time. Bring yourself and a lawn-chair, and we provide the rest!
Annual Chanute Church Chili Challenge not only sports an over-abundance of the letter "C", but is also hosted on the third Friday of November. Local churches gather to exhibit their culinary expertise while the community is invited to taste-test and cast votes for their favorite chili. By purchasing tickets for tasting and voting with pocket change, funds are raised for local charities.
Royster Middle School is of special interest to us. Located at the end of our block, we are intentional about providing school supplies, prayer, and other support as needed for students, faculty and staff.
